Live music is occupying a space in Sanford's arts scene that seems to get bigger every year. Hugger Mugger Brewing in downtown Sanford will host Carolina Indie Fest for a third consecutive year in 2023, this time with the event taking place in the spring.
The brewery will stage the two-day, free concert adjacent to its beer garden on May 12 and 13. The lineup will be announced in the coming months.
A third Carolina Indie Fest marks a success for Hugger Mugger, and the event – which initially appeared set to fold after its initial promoter went bankrupt. The 2021 festival featured more than 30 acts on multiple stages throughout downtown Sanford, but promoter Indie on Air was unable to stage a 2022 iteration after its financial woes tanked the company. Instead, Hugger Mugger stepped in as promoter, drawing thousands of people to the brewery for performances by 10 bands over two days in September.
