Monday Indie Musings
With four days to go it's down to the final preparations for Carolina Indie Fest, and that (plus two radio appearances) put me in a contemplative mood to reflect on the festival. In no particular order ...
this is truly an independent festival, just think of other live music you've attended. Who's organizing it? Who's performing at it? I am likely a bit naive but I'd never thought of that before. I started thinking about it after a friend shared some info with me about another North Carolina music festival that's promoted by a public relations firm. They do a great job, too, and certainly have more staffing and resources than I do to make it happen. Is that Indie? Is that it's entirely free to attend that defines this event so much?
I go to other events, a fair number of them, and I think Carolina Indie Fest has to be the happiest music festival I've attended. We've had 8 of them so far, this weekend being the 9th, so I've seen a LOT of Indie Fest. The first one was right at the tail end of COVID and the looks on people's faces to be around so many people was indescribable. Since then it's just been a stream of happy faces, I've included some pictures here from various and sundry Indies. I don't know what is in the water at Indie Fest but you're going to have a good time (unless not having a good time is your version of a good time - you do you!)
every festival the brewery has poured at this year has had really reduced attendance. Probably around 20% fewer people on average. And I know things are just brutal out there for many people right now, and also that it's been hot as blazes, so I'm hoping a awesome weather and a free music festival is just what we need to put some smiles on faces. I'm worried that there's a lot of unhappiness out there right now. We can't cure that, but maybe we can put a smile on your face (and a beer in your belly - hey, most all of our beers are cheaper than a gallon of diesel, and it tastes better!)
Maybe some of these happy faces will inspire a visit this weekend. We are looking forward to a banger of an event and can't wait to see you there!
