We love a good sea shanty. Yes, we're probably behind the times in terms of trends - sea

shanty's had quite a moment on social media in 2021 - but with Nor'easter Tippers & Pypes kicking off Indie at 2pm on Saturday, May 24th there seemed like a real opportunity here.

First, what in the world is a shanty? A shanty is a sort of folk song often used by those working on ships, most likely merchant ships. It was a working person's song & meant to be in rhythm with the work performed. Because they are meant for a group to sing them, shanty's have a call-and-response style and the verses are repetitive. They're intentionally easy to sing and perform admirably as a way to bring people closer together through song.

There are many traditional shanty's but we are fortunate that Sean Shultis, the ol' Nor'easter pype man himself, is a song writer and wrote two original shanty's to be performed at Carolina Indie Fest including:

Winds in Yer Riggins - Lyrics - Music

The General Harrison - Lyrics - Music

This will be a very fun moment but also short lived, these shanty's are a small percentage of what Nor'easter Tippers & Pypes. Get to know the band a little better by listening to The Rant interview with them!
