One of the most intriguing artists to perform at Indie this year is rapper SXVXNT. He's thoughtful and raps about life, personal aspirations & relatable topics for any of us. His beats are solid and are a powerful combination with his lyrics. Even if rap is not your "thing" SXVXNT is an artist worth listening to at Indie and definitely worth following.
I urge everyone to listen to his interview with The Rant. Carolina Indie Fest features a lot of up-and-coming artists and SXVXNT is open and forthright about what it takes to make it in the music industry. He's honest about some of what it takes to be successful as an artist and it's challenging, it sounds like it may be particularly tough to be a rap artist trying to get recognition because a smaller number of venues and opportunities are willing to book rap artists.
We've had our own challenges in that regard. Shirlette Ammons is, to date, the only rap artist we've booked and she really is more like spoken word/poetry for many of her songs. I've made offers to other artists but have never been able to get them to the stage. I was excited we were able to get SXVXNT here and even moreso after hearing him talk about his background in music and honing his craft, he is going to be a treat for Indiegoers on Saturday, September 27th.
